Chimney and draught
You’re daydreaming about a beautiful iron stove to light up your life and heat up your living room. But before your dream can come true, you also need to consider what chimney solution would be the best for you.
Wood burning stove installation starts with your chimney: it’s one of the most important considerations for an efficient wood burner. The chimney functions as the stove’s ‘engine’ and if it doesn’t have the correct draught, it won’t function as it should.
New stoves place higher demands on draught and chimney conditions than older stoves which use traditional combustion principles. You can install your wood burner on a brick or fabricated chimney system.
Choose the right chimney and stove
In general, it is important that your stove and chimney match. The chimney is the engine of your stove. It is important that you base your choice of both stove and chimney on your needs. Therefore, consider these questions before you choose your heating solution:
- Where in your home will you place the iron stove?
- Will your stove be your only source of heat in the room?
- What type of fuel would you prefer for our stove?
- Are there any challenges in the installation with regards to the placement of the chimney?
Chimney types
Once you’ve thought about these topics, you can select the material for your chimney. Both chimneys in brick and steel are classic choices, but there are several options here. We advise you to reach out to one of our experts. We're easy to find, see our list of dealers here.

The timeless and classic look combined with high engineering standards is the core of all our products. Now, let’s get to the fun part – selecting exactly the look on your Morsø stove that you love.
Mounting your chimney
It is legal for you to mount your chimney yourself, but if you have doubts about whether it’s too much of a handful we advise you to get some professional help. When your chimney is installed, remember to get the installation approved by a authorized chimney sweeper. Once this is done all you have to do is light up your new Morsø iron stove, and enjoy the warm and cosy atmosphere with friends and family.
Draught
Chimney draught is created because of the difference between the high temperature inside the chimney and the relatively cool air in the room.
Reduced draught may occur when:
- The temperature difference is too small (for example, the chimney may be poorly insulated).
- The outside temperature is too high (during the summer, for instance).
- The chimney is too short.
- The top of the chimney (the termination) is sheltered by the roof face, adjacent structures or high trees.
- Air enters the chimney where it shouldn’t (e.g. through cracks).
We recommend you have your chimney checked and swept regularly by a qualified chimney sweep. This is not only important for the efficiency of your stove; it’s also a safety consideration. Regular maintenance will help to prevent dangerous chimney fires.
