There is nothing more cozy and comforting than the view of sparkling fire that lights up the living room with it’s beautiful flames. However, this view might quickly be disturbed by dirt, tar and soot blackening up the glass on the stove. Morsø has made a simple guide to keep the glass sparkling.

How do I prevent that the glass sooting up?

Glass on a wood burning stove gets dirty from burning wet wood or wood that contains a lot of resin. To keep the glass clean, you should therefore only use quality wood with a moisture content of a maximum 20%. The harder the wood, and the drier it is, the cleaner your glass will stay.

Furthermore, soot on the glass door can occur if the combustion temperature is too low. When you light the stove, you should make sure to take fresh air in for combustion to warm up the chimney; this is done by letting the riddling grate and primary air input valve open. Another possibility is to leave the door ajar to take as much air in as possible.

As soon as the firewood is smouldering, you should add dry logs. When the blue/purple flames disappear, you should close the riddling grate and primary air input valve. The combustion is now controlled solely by means of the secondary air input valve.

To raise the combustion temperature, you may turn up for the secondary air input valve while closing the primary air input valve and the riddling grate.

How to remove Dirt from the door glass?

If the glass door is black with soot and dirt, you will first of all need a cleaning kit. You can obtain a wide range of approved glass cleaner products from your local Morsø dealer. Alternatively, warm soapy water and newspaper can be used but only when the stove is cold. If the glass has a thick layer of soot, you can clean it with ammonia solution. When you are removing the soot, you might benefit from using a rubber glove as it can messy. Hereafter you just apply the cleaner and keep rubbing with a newspaper until the burnt-on dirt is gone.

To get rid of the film, you might use a new piece of folded up newspaper to rub it clean. If the film is stubborn you can dip the newspaper into water.

Now you can once again enjoy cozy moment in front of the cheerful flames with friends and family until it is time to clean the door glass again.

How often should I clean the stove for soot?

The wood burning stove should be cleaned for soot when need arises, or at least once a year. The baffle is removed from the stove and cleaned up – using a nozzle or a Morsø Ash Cleaner. The Ash Cleaner is also suitable for cleaning the rest of the stove. Note that the stove must be cold when cleaned.
