Twist bread (Campfire breadsticks)

Recipe by: Maldon Salt
Serves: 4

Procedure

Twist bread is the classic campfire activity that always brings friends and family together under the open sky. With a light and crispy crust, it's the perfect snack in the evening sun. Twist bread is easy to make, fun to bake – and always a guaranteed hit when you want to gather everyone around the fire, no matter their age.

Soak the sticks in water so the part that will be covered with dough is damp. Let them soak for about 30 minutes – or longer if possible.

Mix flour, baking powder, and Maldon salt in a bowl.

Add water and oil, and knead into a smooth dough.

Divide the dough into four portions and roll each one into a sausage shape.

Twist the dough around a stick and bake over glowing embers until the bread is golden and cooked through.
